SOCIAL Initiatives

“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.” If you're blessed with the means to live a reasonably comfortable way of life, you have the ability to give. The world outside can be a dark place, and those who have little or nothing depend on the generosity and loving-kindness of people with a giving spirit. When you give to the less fortunate, you add to their lives - and by adding to theirs, you add to yours too.

ANIMAL CARE

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” – Gandhi From the tiniest bug on the sidewalk to the mighty lion roaming the African savannah, animals of all kinds can teach us valuable life lessons. If we really pay attention, other animals can teach us many important lessons that we may have forgotten in the haste of our normal daily lives. Just by interacting briefly with other creatures, we can take away valuable knowledge that we can’t always learn from our fellow humans. Even our own pet can teach us new things every single day without us realizing it. We live in such a fascinating universe that constantly gives us opportunities to learn. Our project ‘SAHAYA’ – an Adhiroha initiative focuses on the importance of living in harmony with our fellow beings. We believe that this planet was made to be shared with all creatures and is not just a human monopoly.

What we plan?

In its simplest form, ‘SAHAYA’ refers to the relationships we have with animals and the duty we have to assure that the animals under our care are treated humanely and responsibly. Our plan is to give all animals a space where they feel safe and secure at all times. Where people with similar interests as ours are welcomed to be a part of our initiative. We aim to construct an animal shelter where these animals can live a life of peace. Animal shelters play a vital role in our communities as they continuously work to reunite pets with their owners, shelter those in need and find new homes for animals that are lost, without a permanent home or for those animals that, for our own security, shouldn’t be roaming our streets.

How can you help?

These are some ways that we expect you to help us make this planet a better place for animals. We feed stray animals every few days and encourage our students and staff to be a part of the activity as well. Apart from just feeding we encourage people to volunteer with us by becoming a SAHAYA ambassador. How could you support us? Spread the Word – Raise awareness about the project from wherever you are.
Raise Funds – Talk about the project to corporates or interested individuals, or alternatively set up a meeting for us to present our project to them.
SAHAYA team members constantly hear stories about how people's lives are profoundly affected by their involvement in the project. Volunteers not only feel that they are doing something worthwhile, but also feel empowered, realising that every small contribution matters.

What are our objectives?

Our motive is to give The Five Freedoms to our animal friends:
Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.
Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

PLANTATION DRIVE

Step outside your home and we guarantee you won’t be far from a tree. From pine and oak, to willow and ash, we’re surrounded by a huge variety of different types of them. And while they’re all pretty and wonderful to look at, their importance stems far beyond beauty. Since the very beginning trees have given us the gift of life's essentials. Many generations passed and we discovered other uses of trees and exploited them for our survival. The need for plantation has become even greater these days because of the growing pollution in the environment. We understand the importance of plantation and therefore we keep organising plantation drives under project ‘SHWAAS’- an Adhiroha initiative.

What we plan?

We believe that Planting trees can also help people become better versions of themselves as it would not only make them feel accomplished but also would be helping to protect our environment and that’s why we encourage our students and staff to celebrate any important occasions of their lives by planting a sapling.

How can you help?

We are grateful to everyone who has ever sowed a seed with us, we encourage people to come forward and plant a tree and become a part of our ever- growing plantation drive. Many of our students have already been a huge part of this initiative by planting more than hundred trees over the time. You could be a volunteer by becoming a member of our project, How could you support us?
Spread the Word – Raise awareness about the project from wherever you are.
Raise Funds – Talk about the project to corporates or interested individuals, or alternatively set up a meeting for us to present our project to them.
SHWAAS team members constantly hear stories about how people's lives are profoundly affected by their involvement in the project. Volunteers not only feel that they are doing something worthwhile, but also feel empowered, realising that every small contribution matters.

What are our objectives?

Continue professional protection and care for existing trees and shrubs; continue planting and removing trees and shrubs as needed to maintain a safe and diverse urban forest that promotes learning.
Create programs that provide education about the maintenance and growth of woody plant species and their proper use in the landscape.
Grow a diverse range of both native and non-native woody plant species that can be viewed for their natural beauty and utilized for learning, recreation, and to bolster energy and storm water conservation efforts. Create plant collections throughout campus to enhance study among related species and native/non-native trees.
Increase awareness of the Donate-a-Tree program which includes gifts of trees, memorial trees and donations for the forestation program.

Education Drive

Education is a powerful tool which empowers communities to turn around their lives. If any member of a family is educated, it can help coming generations to break the inter-generational cycles of poverty. Education is a great enabler – it makes people skilled and equips them to engage in meaningful professions and thus contribute to their own and society’s socio-economic well-being.
In India, even today, millions of children go without any access to education. As many as 8.4 crore children in India continue to remain out of school. Its a major social problem plaguing modern-day India. To make sure the benefits of education touch everyone Adhiroha came with the SAMPATA initiative under which we help underprivileged children with studies by supplying study material and other important education related material.

What we plan?

Our plan is to establish a school under the SAMPATA project where all these children who have no access to education due to several reasons can enroll for free.
The revenues from our yoga school shall be pooled in for this charity. Thereafter, in future we plan to create similar projects through out the country for the benefit of these young children.

How can you help?

You can extend your assistance in more ways than one. For instance, you can offer donations to construct the school building. Once the school is operational, you can also contribute by offering your services as a teacher here. You can also choose to collect donations and send them to us for our project.
Spread the Word – Raise awareness about the project from wherever you are.
Raise Funds – Talk about the project to corporates or interested individuals, or alternatively set up a meeting for us to present our project to them.
Sampata team members constantly hear stories about how people's lives are profoundly affected by their involvement in the project. Volunteers not only feel that they are doing something worthwhile, but also feel empowered, realising that every small contribution matters.

What are our objectives?

Our aim is to :-
Identify the causes of poverty and try to eliminate them.
To provide information about social welfare schemes to the target audiences so that poor people can raise their children in a better way.
Follow the policy of “each one should teach one.”
To make sure that every child gets to exercise their right to education.

Food Drive

About 795 million people worldwide face hunger, according to the World Food Programme – one in nine people on earth. And hunger knows no borders, with serious challenges in high- and low-income nations alike. In India, one in six people go hungry; including children.
Food drives play a really important role — they help us provide the most nutritious and balanced food for our community members. Understanding the pain of those sleeping empty stomach, we launched Project SVANNA – an Adhiroha initiative.

What we plan?

Under the SVANNA project our aim is to help those for who food drives play a critical role in keeping shelves stocked. It’s not just about food – it’s about healthy food. That means donating things like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean proteins.
Increase the supply of high need items such as soup, fruits, vegetables, and personal care items.
Increase the donor pool and make connections between the donor and different organizations serving the hungry.
Raise awareness about poverty and the need to advocate for the poor. Educational efforts can be tied into food collections to provide holistic ministry. Try to make youth groups a part of our initiative.
Build a community so people from a wide range of ages, neighbourhoods, communities, schools, and businesses all work together for a common cause, get acquainted, and become friends.

How can you help?

A world with zero hunger can positively impact our economies, health, education, equality and social development. It’s a key piece of building a better future for everyone. Additionally, with hunger limiting human development, we will not be able to achieve the other sustainable development goals such as education, health and gender equality.
You can help us by becoming a SVANNA ambassador. How could you support us?
Spread the Word – Raise awareness about the project from wherever you are.
Raise Funds – Talk about the project to corporates or interested individuals, or alternatively set up a meeting for us to present our project to them.
SVANNA team members constantly hear stories about how people's lives are profoundly affected by their involvement in the project. Volunteers not only feel that they are doing something worthwhile, but also feel empowered, realising that every small contribution matters.

What are our objectives?

Under our SVANNA project, we have time and again fed the needy and homeless with the help of our students, staff and volunteers. Our objectives are simple yet important :-
To reduce or prevent child undernutrition (stunting, wasting, micronutrient deficiencies);
To educate children and improve knowledge about healthy diet and lifestyle habits;
To reduce food insecurity and hunger.
Make sure that no one goes to bed empty stomach.
Try to get more people acquainted with out program so we can make a bigger impact.

CLEANLINESS DRIVE

A clean and green environment is a basic ideology in sustainable development. A whole lot of diseases can be traced back to unhygienic environments and irresponsible waste disposal. The importance of cleanliness is known to all now, yet people try to keep their homes clean while they somehow just forget that they are responsible for the cleanliness of the environment as well, that they are responsible for any waste they generate and that just getting rid of it from their house won't help. It could be due to lack of knowledge or due to sheer laziness or due to irresponsibility. Sometimes all it takes is a reminder. We understand the importance of a clean environment and therefore we keep organising cleanliness drives at different places under our project “SHODHIT”- an Adhiroha initiative through which we make people aware of the importance and methods of handling waste responsibly.

What we plan?

Cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and a healthy environment. It has bearing on public and personal hygiene.
Our idea is to make everyone aware of the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation and the various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic conditions by organising cleanliness drives around the city with our students, staff and volunteers.
In past we have had successful cleanliness drives under the project name ‘SHODHIT,’ for cleaning the Holy river Ganga.
SHODHITI has been a major part of river front development and river surface cleaning over the years since it has transpired. It has been a part of various drives where we cleaned trekking routes and other areas of the city where waste management had become a huge problem.

How can you help?

BECOME A SHODHIT AMBASSADOR :- One can help by becoming a SHODHIT ambassador by joining us in our next cleanliness drive. Just contact us and we will update you about the details of our next drive. How could you support us?

Raise Funds – Talk about the project to corporates or interested individuals, or alternatively set up a meeting for us to present our project to them.
SHODHIT team members constantly hear stories about how people's lives are profoundly affected by their involvement in the project. Volunteers not only feel that they are doing something worthwhile, but also feel empowered, realising that every small contribution matters.

What are our objectives?

Spread awareness regarding cleanliness and sanitation, Cleaning places of public importance.
To educate people to avoid plastic waste.
Awareness on recyclable products and how to use them to avoid waste.
Create Public Awareness by doing a series of activities such as events, workshops, seminars and conferences etc organized to make a strong pitch for public outreach and community participation in the programme.
Various awareness activities through rallies, campaigns, exhibitions, shram daan, cleanliness drives, competitions and development and distribution of resource materials organized and for wider publicity the mass mediums such as TV/Radio, print media advertisements, advertorials, featured articles and advertorials.

Take A Pledge

Over the years the damage done to the environment and fellow beings has been severe, causing serious imbalance in the ecological system. What we forget is our daily consumption of paper, water, fuel and energy directly affects our natural surroundings which comes back to affect us. The more we damage the environment, the more harm we cause ourselves. Make a pledge to protect the environment that protects you. Do a bit to save the earth and restore the circle of life.
